Lecturer or Junior Lecturer – Structural Engineering

About the role

The Department of Civil Engineering at Stellenbosch University invites applications for a five‑year fixed‑term position as Lecturer or Junior Lecturer in Structural Engineering. The successful candidate will join a vibrant teaching and research team serving a large cohort of undergraduate and postgraduate civil engineering students.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and tutorials in structural engineering within the undergraduate civil engineering programme.
• Contribute to curriculum development and assessment design.
• Develop and maintain an active research programme, publish in peer‑reviewed journals and seek external funding.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
• Participate in departmental, faculty and professional service activities.

Required profile

• For Junior Lecturer: BEng or BScEng in Civil Engineering from a recognised university, eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA, and able to register for a PhD by 2027.
• For Lecturer: BEng or BScEng in Civil Engineering, plus a PhD in a relevant field or an MEng/MSc with at least three years of industry experience in structural mechanics or design.
• Strong academic record and excellent written and spoken English.
