About the role
The Department of Genetics at Stellenbosch University seeks a full‑time Lecturer to teach genetics, biotechnology and biometry modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to join an existing research group focused on human, animal or plant genetics.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate, administer and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching modules in genetics, biotechnology and/or biometry.
- Supervise BScHons, MSc and PhD students, guiding their research projects.
- Conduct independent research in molecular genetics, genomics, population genetics or quantitative genetics with applications to human, animal or plant systems.
- Publish findings in peer‑reviewed international journals and present at conferences.
- Develop collaborations with industry to secure third‑stream research funding.
- Contribute to departmental, faculty and university service activities and build academic networks locally and internationally.
Required profile
- PhD in Genetics or a closely related discipline with a clear specialisation.
- Demonstrated research experience in a genetics sub‑discipline and a strong publication record.
- Experience supervising postgraduate research students.
- Track record of obtaining or willingness to obtain external research funding.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and to establish international collaborations.
- Commitment to teaching, assessment and academic administration, and to uphold the university’s core values.
- Preferred: National Research Foundation (NRF) rating and registration with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist.
