Lead Legal, Compliance & Data Privacy – South Africa & Developing Markets

About the role

This pivotal position provides expert legal, compliance, and data‑privacy guidance across the Healthcare business in South Africa and the Life Science business throughout Southern, Western and Eastern Africa, including markets such as Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal, compliance and data‑privacy advice to regional leadership teams.
• Advise on contractual, commercial, medical, research and digital initiatives.
• Drive the rollout of global compliance and data‑privacy frameworks.
• Manage risk, deliver training and lead cross‑functional projects.
• Oversee due‑diligence, investigations, audits and corrective actions.

Required profile

• Law degree with admission to practice in South Africa.
• At least 4 years post‑qualification experience in healthcare and/or life sciences, preferably in a large law firm or international organization.
• Working knowledge of multinational corporate compliance, anti‑bribery, anti‑corruption and data‑privacy regulations.
• Proven ability to build relationships and influence senior stakeholders across cultures.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of artificial intelligence tools and their ethical considerations.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
