Junior Software Developer

About the role

Join Interfile, a leading South African fintech company in electronic bill presentment and payment. As a Junior Software Developer you will support the design, development and maintenance of Java‑based applications, working under the guidance of senior developers in a modern office near Montecasino.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in implementing product designs using Java and related tools.
• Collaborate with team members to estimate effort and track development tasks.
• Perform software maintenance, including bug fixes and small enhancements.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established development methodologies.
• Liaise with QA and support teams to resolve escalated issues.
• Continuously develop skills by learning new technologies and programming practices.

Required profile

• 2+ years of exposure to programming through internships, coursework or personal projects.
• Familiarity with the software development lifecycle.
• Experience with real‑time web interfaces or portals is advantageous.
• Exposure to agile methodologies is a plus.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical thinking.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and collaborate in a team environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java (JEE/SE) and Java 8+ features.
• Experience with Spring Boot for building REST/SOAP services.
• Basic experience with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB).
• Understanding of SOAP and RESTful web services.
• Familiarity with Git version control.
• Knowledge of Maven build tool.
• Experience using API testing tools such as SoapUI or Postman.
