Junior Risk and Compliance Analyst (Legal)

About the role

A prestigious UK‑based law firm is expanding its international Risk & Compliance team and is looking for a Junior Risk and Compliance Analyst (Legal) to work remotely from South Africa. The role supports legal risk management, AML, sanctions screening, client due diligence, conflict checks and regulatory monitoring, partnering with fee earners, paralegals and business functions.

Key responsibilities

• Review open and closed client matters to ensure records are accurate, complete and up‑to‑date.
• Update the firm’s case management system with relevant risk and compliance information.
• Draft low‑risk client and matter risk assessments.
• Support client onboarding and due‑diligence by verifying identification and documentation.
• Conduct PEP, sanctions and adverse‑media screening and escalate concerns.
• Perform basic conflict checks and review results.
• Liaise with attorneys, fee earners and paralegals to obtain outstanding compliance documentation.
• Maintain accurate compliance records and electronic filing systems.
• Assist with retrospective compliance reviews, spot checks and regulatory updates.
• Monitor progress of outstanding compliance requirements and ensure timely completion.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Law, Risk Management, Compliance or a related field.
• 1–2 years of experience within a law‑firm environment (essential).
• Exposure to legal risk and compliance functions, AML, KYC, CDD, sanctions or PEP screening (advantageous).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organisational ability and attention to detail in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven setting.
• Proactive, self‑motivated attitude and ability to work effectively within a remote, collaborative international team.
