Junior Operator – Terminal Operations

About the role

Vopak is seeking a Junior Operator to join its growing team at Terminal Lesedi in South Africa. You will support safe and efficient product movements from arrival to departure, contributing to the terminal’s ambition to be a leading tank terminal operator.

Key responsibilities

• Manage product movements on‑site in accordance with Vopak policies, standards and procedures.
• Ensure safe and efficient handling of chemicals and petrochemical products.
• Support operational planning, monitoring and reporting using Vopak’s digital tools.
• Participate in hazard identification, risk assessments and emergency response activities.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Completed Chemical Operations NQF2 (advantageous) or N6 Engineering qualification (Mechanical or Chemical) or equivalent NQF level 5 in Operations Management.
• 1‑2 years of relevant experience in chemical operations and at least 2 years in a petrochemical environment.
• Proven knowledge of operational support systems and SHEQ practices.
• Valid driver’s licence or working towards one.

Required skills

• Operational support systems (e.g., MyService, Enablon, MyPulse).
• SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Quality) procedures.
• Site operations standards and procedures.
• Hazard identification and risk assessment.
• First Aid, Gas Monitoring, Hazardous Chemical Handling.
• Confined space training, LOTO, DSCE, Vopak standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
