Junior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

The Junior Mechanical Design Engineer will provide accurate and timely mechanical design and drawing support for power transformer works orders and design change requests. Working under the guidance of a senior engineer, the role focuses on developing core competencies in transformer design while ensuring technical compliance and preventing production delays.

Key responsibilities

• Execute mechanical design tasks for power transformer components and produce detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using 3D CAD software.
• Address and resolve production‑raised technical queries and non‑conformance reports by implementing small design changes or drawing amendments.
• Investigate, develop and implement solutions to automate or streamline repetitive design processes, such as automatic drawing conversion or parameterisation.
• Proactively engage in on‑the‑job learning, self‑study and formal training to acquire advanced mechanical design skills.
• Ensure all design work complies with Actom’s quality procedures, industry standards and customer requirements, maintaining strict version control.

Required profile

• A Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• 0–2 years of experience in a design/draughting role, with internship experience considered beneficial.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Inventor or Creo.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
