Junior Legal Advisor (2 positions)

About the role

The University of Pretoria is seeking two Junior Legal Advisors to join its Legal Department. Working under the supervision of the Deputy‑Director, you will provide cost‑effective legal support across a range of university functions, including student discipline, litigation, contracts, labour matters and intellectual property.

Key responsibilities

• Manage student disciplinary cases, negotiate plea agreements and ensure compliance with the Disciplinary Code.
• Provide legal advice, draft opinions and assess the impact of new legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Assist with trademark portfolio management and advise on copyright, PAIA and POPIA matters.
• Support university litigation, prepare documentation for counsel and attend court proceedings.
• Draft, review and negotiate a variety of agreements such as MOUs, service level agreements, donation and grant contracts, employment and consultant agreements, and non‑disclosure agreements.

Required profile

• Law degree (LLB) from a recognized university.
• Admission to legal practice in South Africa or eligibility to practice under supervision.
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under supervision and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders.
