Junior Collections Officer

About the role

Vela Personnel is looking for a Junior Collections Officer to manage early‑stage delinquent accounts. The role involves outbound contact with first‑time defaulters, accurate account maintenance and supporting the Senior Collections Officer with operational tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Make outbound calls to early defaulters to follow up on overdue accounts and communicate balances, due dates and payment expectations.
• Negotiate basic payment arrangements within approved guidelines and record promises to pay.
• Escalate continuous, non‑responsive or complex defaulters to the Senior Collections Officer.
• Update account statuses, capture repayments and allocate them accurately in the system.
• Assist with daily monitoring of the collections book, reconciliation of payments and investigation of discrepancies.
• Draft and issue settlement letters, paid‑up letters and payment arrangement confirmations.
• Prepare account statements and supporting documentation while ensuring all correspondence is professional and compliant.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
• At least 2 years of experience in collections, call centre or collections administration.
• Clear verbal and written communication, basic negotiation and problem‑solving abilities.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to manage rejection and work to targets.
• Professional telephone manner and ethical, compliant approach.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CRM systems.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
