Junior Application Software Developer

About the role

Our client is seeking a junior embedded software developer to expand and maintain firmware for power electronics such as inverters, batteries and rectifiers. The role focuses on creating reliable, efficient low‑level software in C/C++ that runs close to the hardware, interfaces with sensors and actuators, and supports diagnostics and field reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++ for power electronics products.
• Use Git for daily version control and collaborate with the team.
• Access remote devices via SSH and set up Docker containers for development and testing.
• Work with Linux command line tools to monitor logs, processes and file permissions.
• Apply networking fundamentals to configure IP addressing, ports and troubleshoot connectivity.
• Design clear APIs for device data and command exposure.
• Implement automated unit and integration tests and support end‑to‑end testing where needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
• 1–2 years of experience in embedded software development.
• South African citizenship.

Required skills

• Embedded C and C++ programming.
• Version control with Git.
• Remote access using SSH.
• Basic Docker usage for development environments.
• Linux terminal proficiency.
• Fundamental networking concepts (IP, ports, troubleshooting).
• API design fundamentals.
• Automated testing practices (unit and integration testing).
