Junior Accountant

About the role

A leading international trading, distribution and logistics business within the chemicals industry is seeking a Junior Accountant to support the full spectrum of day‑to‑day financial operations. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, strong financial controls and timely reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Manage full‑cycle accounting transactions and maintain the General Ledger, including journals, invoices, payments and adjustments.
• Oversee Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes, including invoicing, allocations, reconciliations, collections, credit control and supplier queries.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly bank reconciliations and support cash‑flow and payment planning.
• Maintain inventory accounting records, conduct inventory reconciliations, costing and impairment assessments.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, balance‑sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end close activities such as accruals, pre‑payments, provisions and journal entries.
• Prepare VAT calculations and statutory compliance schedules, and support internal and external audit requirements.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in bookkeeping/accounting with full‑cycle accounting exposure.
• Practical experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger and bank reconciliations.
• Understanding of inventory accounting, costing and VAT/statutory compliance.
• Experience working in a trading, distribution, logistics or chemicals environment is advantageous.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, Sage or Pastel.
