Java Developer – Digital Payments

About the role

PayTech Nexus Ltd is seeking a Java Developer specialized in digital payments for a 12‑month contract in Johannesburg. The role involves developing, testing and maintaining scalable Java applications within agile, project‑based technology teams serving the banking and FinTech sector.

Key responsibilities

• Designing and developing Java applications.
• Writing scalable and maintainable code.
• Testing and documenting applications.
• Participating in system and code reviews.
• Troubleshooting and resolving application issues.
• Supporting deployments and CI/CD processes.
• Collaborating with developers, testers and business stakeholders.
• Maintaining technical documentation.
• Supporting automation and technical improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, IT or a related field.
• Strong Java and Java EE skills.
• Experience with Spring Boot and Hibernate.
• Experience with MySQL or other relational databases.
• Experience with Java 8 and/or Java 11.
• Experience with Git, Maven, Gradle and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of Docker and Jenkins.
• Software development and system design knowledge.
• Previous experience in banking, digital payments, card solutions or FinTech.
• Strong English communication skills.
