IT Support Officer

About the role

The IT Support Officer will ensure the smooth operation of all IT systems within a fast‑paced abattoir, meat‑processing environment and cattle feedlot. You will provide technical assistance to staff, maintain hardware and software, and support specialised production equipment to minimise downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑line and second‑line IT support to administrative and operational users, including troubleshooting hardware, software, printer, email and network issues.
• Install, configure and maintain desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, barcode scanners, biometric access systems and other production equipment.
• Monitor and maintain LAN, wireless networks and internet connectivity across the facility.
• Manage support tickets, route queries to third‑party service providers and ensure timely resolution.
• Perform routine system maintenance, hardware and software upgrades, and document technical procedures.
• Maintain accurate IT asset registers and assist with procurement of new equipment.
• Ensure compliance with IT security policies, support disaster‑recovery plans and report any risks.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.
• Strong problem‑solving ability in a high‑pressure production environment.
• Experience with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to work independently and minimise downtime.

Required skills

• MS SQL Server – query writing and database maintenance.
• Advanced Excel – linking sheets to databases, pivots and complex formulas.
• Network cable installation and crimping (RJ45, shielded, keystones).
• Hardware and software troubleshooting.
• Configuration of barcode scanners and biometric access systems.
