Investment Portfolio Analyst (Asset Management)

About the role

Our client, a boutique asset management firm in Cape Town, is seeking a junior quantitative analyst to join its Analytics team. The role offers broad exposure to portfolio performance, risk reporting, modelling, construction and implementation, providing an excellent foundation for a career in investments.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Portfolio Managers to analyse and support a suite of portfolios, ensuring systems are up‑to‑date.
• Translate model portfolio decisions into fund‑specific trading instructions across multiple GIPS composites.
• Maintain, validate and reconcile data on internal systems for regular and ad‑hoc reporting.
• Produce monthly, quarterly and annual client and consultant reports, meeting all SLAs.
• Assist with GIPS preparation, composite reporting and respond to quantitative risk‑return queries.
• Engage with senior management to identify, manage and mitigate risk and performance factors.
• Contribute to process improvement, automation and enhancement of risk and performance functions.

Required profile

• Numerically‑oriented degree (e.g., BBusSci, BCom Actuarial, BSc Mathematics or Statistics).
• Professional certification such as FRM, CQF, CIPM or CFA (or studying towards).
• Strong understanding of financial instruments and markets with a passion for financial markets.
• Excellent attention to detail, ownership of tasks and ability to organise workload.
• Effective communication and relationship‑building skills.
