Inventory Cost Accountant

About the role

Communicate Finance is seeking an experienced Inventory Cost Accountant to join its finance team in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. You will play a key role in managing stock returns, contractor boot stock, and ensuring accurate financial reporting of inventory movements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the return of stock from customer sites, investigate discrepancies and ensure timely processing in relevant systems.
• Own the end‑to‑end returns process across departments, closing tickets and queries within agreed timelines.
• Report on return variances at job and contractor level, highlighting trends and exceptions for management.
• Reconcile contractor boot stock, obtain monthly confirmations, investigate variances and process adjustments according to accounting standards.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations and documentation.
• Develop and maintain policies, systems and procedures for control, reconciliation and reporting of returned and contractor‑held stock.
• Prepare performance reports, conduct root‑cause analysis of exceptions and monitor inventory accuracy.
• Collaborate with operational, finance and logistics teams to improve returns processes.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience as an inventory cost accountant.
• Matric and a degree (non‑negotiable).
• CIMA qualification is beneficial.
• Completion of relevant articles is advantageous.
