Interim CFO – Construction & Mining Projects (Johannesburg)

About the role

This interim position offers a senior finance leader the chance to shape financial strategy for a company operating in construction and mining projects. The role is based in Johannesburg and reports directly to the CEO and Board.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the overall finance function and develop a financial strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Provide strategic financial guidance to the CEO, Board and executive team.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management and monthly/quarterly/annual reporting.
• Manage project costing, work‑in‑progress (WIP), contract accounting and profitability analysis across multiple projects.
• Monitor financial performance of business units and drive continuous process improvement.
• Oversee treasury, banking relationships and funding requirements.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax legislation, Companies Act and other statutory obligations.
• Lead annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
• Strengthen financial controls, governance and risk management.
• Mentor and manage a high‑performing finance team.

Required profile

• CA(SA) qualification preferred.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in a CFO role.
• Extensive experience in the construction industry; exposure to mining or mining‑related construction projects.
• Proven ability to manage large finance teams and complex operations.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, taxation, corporate governance and financial reporting.
