Instrument Technician

About the role

The Instrument Technician is responsible for ensuring maximum plant uptime by leading maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems across the production, packaging, palletising, wastewater, utilities and facilities areas.

Key responsibilities

• Perform electrical and instrumentation maintenance on process, packaging, palletising and wastewater plants.
• Lead repairs and preventive maintenance for vertical filling machines, automatic case packaging machines and robotic palletising systems.
• Monitor daily downtime, develop corrective action plans and conduct root‑cause analysis.
• Calibrate, repair and maintain instrumentation, control and electrical equipment to set standards.
• Maintain PLCs, SCADA systems and associated networks, including program backups and upgrades.
• Document changes, perform internal audits and ensure compliance with MESS standards.
• Record all activities in the SAP CMMS and coordinate with suppliers and contractors.
• Provide proactive shift coverage, standby support and overtime as required.

Required profile

• Electrical trade qualification (minimum N6/S4 diploma) in Instrumentation and Control.
• At least 5 years of maintenance experience in a production/FMCG environment.
• Advanced computer literacy.

Required skills

• PLC programming and maintenance.
• SCADA system configuration and troubleshooting.
• Instrumentation calibration and fault diagnosis.
• Electrical fault finding to component level.
• Root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• SAP computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) usage.
• Experience with vertical filling machines, automatic case packaging machines and robotic palletising systems.
• Knowledge of MESS standards and safety procedures.
