Inspector Estimator - Pump Repair

About the role

Sulzer is hiring an Inspector Estimator in Johannesburg. The role involves inspecting pump components after disassembly, estimating repair requirements and preparing the scope of work and cost estimates needed to repair or replace damaged parts. It suits experienced support-level staff who work largely independently.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect pump components after disassembly, identifying damage, wear or defects.
• Estimate repair requirements and choose the most suitable repair methods and materials according to industry standards, application needs and customer expectations.
• Determine the precise scope of work and document it so that all necessary repairs are included.
• Ensure repairs meet industry standards and identify risks affecting performance or reliability.
• Document inspection and estimation findings and provide enough detail for Engineering when reports and recommendations are needed.
• Collaborate with workshop teams so everyone is aligned on repair requirements.
• Draft the Quality Control Plan (QCP) and move it to approval.
• Prepare the repair budget and method setting, and load costs into SAP.

Required profile

• Grade 12 and qualification as a qualified tradesman (turner or fitter).
• At least N6 or equivalent experience.
• At least 8 years in pump repair, rotating equipment service or equivalent heavy-engineering inspection.
• Valid Code 8 driver's licence.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, use measuring tools such as micrometers and verniers, and write reports.
• Quality and customer-service orientation, attention to detail, composure under pressure and diagnostic problem solving.

Required skills

• Knowledge of steel repair methods and properties.
• Computer literacy.
• SAP systems are advantageous.
