In‑House Legal Counsel – Johannesburg

About the role

We are looking for an experienced In‑House Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support across our business operations in Johannesburg. The role involves managing legal risk, ensuring compliance, and delivering practical advice that enables business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage Board of Directors and committee meetings, including agendas, minutes and resolutions.
• Ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements and statutory obligations.
• Maintain corporate records, statutory filings and regulatory disclosures.
• Monitor compliance with applicable legislation and internal policies.
• Develop and implement compliance programmes, including anti‑corruption, data protection and ethics.
• Conduct legal risk assessments and internal compliance audits.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as NDAs, service agreements and vendor contracts.
• Provide legal advice on commercial transactions and major projects.
• Develop contract templates and legal approval processes.
• Implement legal policies, document management and employee legal training.
• Manage external legal counsel and oversee litigation matters.
• Partner with Finance, HR, Operations and Business Development on legal matters.

Required profile

• LLB degree from an accredited institution.
• Admission to practice (advantageous).
• Minimum 5 years of relevant in‑house legal experience.
• Experience in corporate governance, compliance and commercial contracts.
• Exposure to financing and M&A is advantageous.
• Fluent in English; Chinese language skills are required.
