Infrastructure & Data Centre Manager

The Infrastructure & Data Centre Manager will lead the strategic and day‑to‑day management of 1‑grid’s hosting infrastructure and data‑centre operations in Cape Town. Reporting to senior leadership, the role ensures high availability, security, scalability and cost‑effectiveness of all technical services while delivering a premium customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall infrastructure and data‑centre strategy, aligning roadmaps with business growth and customer needs.
• Design, develop and maintain data‑centre architecture, managing space, power, cooling, rack layout and redundancy models such as N+1 and 2N.
• Lead network architecture design, ensuring scalable, resilient and secure connectivity for hosting and internal services.
• Establish and enforce infrastructure and network‑security standards, overseeing firewalls, segmentation, access controls and security monitoring.
• Own hardware procurement and asset lifecycle, negotiating with vendors and managing inventory, deployment, refresh and secure disposal.
• Collaborate with sales and support teams to create customised hosting, colocation and networking solutions that meet complex customer requirements.
• Manage daily data‑centre operations, maintaining 24/7/365 service availability, power, cooling, fire suppression and physical security.
• Act as senior escalation point for critical incidents, leading response, root‑cause analysis and preventative actions.
• Oversee vendor relationships, monitoring performance against SLAs and negotiating contracts and service levels.
• Lead, coach and develop the infrastructure team, ensuring appropriate staffing, shift coverage and a culture of technical excellence.
