Independence Specialist

About the role

PwC’s South Africa Independence Team is seeking a manager‑level Independence Specialist to support the Partner Responsible for Independence (PRI). The role focuses on promoting and monitoring compliance with external independence laws, internal policies and procedures, helping to manage regulatory, litigation and reputational risk for the firm.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures that ensure compliance with independence regulations and PwC’s internal standards.
• Partner with the PRI and line‑of‑service leaders to monitor adherence to external laws and internal policies across the firm.
• Take ownership of projects, overseeing planning, budgeting, execution and delivery while ensuring quality and timelines.
• Mentor and coach team members, leveraging their strengths and addressing performance issues.
• Address conflicts or difficult conversations with clients, stakeholders or team members and escalate when necessary.
• Uphold professional and technical standards, including PwC tax and audit guidance, the firm’s code of conduct and independence requirements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in risk, compliance or independence functions, preferably at a manager level.
• Strong analytical ability to understand complex systems and regulatory linkages.
• Excellent leadership, communication and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Commitment to integrity, authenticity and fostering a culture of ethical conduct.
