In-House Legal and Compliance Officer

About the role

PBSA, a leading automation and business solutions provider in Southern Africa, is looking for a commercially‑minded In‑House Legal and Compliance Officer. The role blends legal advisory work with quality‑management responsibilities, supporting business units while safeguarding the company against legal and regulatory risk.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to management and all business units.
• Draft, review, negotiate and manage commercial agreements such as supplier, customer, service level, confidentiality, employment and distribution contracts.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal, contractual and regulatory risks, and advise on dispute resolution strategies.
• Prepare corporate documents, board resolutions, policies, delegations and authorisations.
• Liaise with external attorneys, regulators, customers and suppliers.
• Manage and maintain the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, plan and conduct internal audits, and coordinate external certification audits.
• Maintain QMS documentation, corrective actions, risk registers, non‑conformance records and management review files.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with POPIA, PAIA, FICA and other applicable legislation.

Required profile

• LLB degree and admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum five years’ experience in an in‑house, commercial or corporate legal environment.
• Proven track record drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Strong knowledge of South African commercial, corporate, contract and employment law.
• Working knowledge of POPIA, PAIA and FICA.
• Experience with ISO 9001:2015 QMS; ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification is advantageous.
• Fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
