In-House Counsel – Employment & Labour Law (South Africa)

About the role

The In-House Counsel will provide comprehensive legal and employment law support to our South African operations. You will advise on contractual matters, represent the company in labour disputes, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on South African labour legislation, including LRA, BCEA, EEA, OHSA, and POPIA.
• Review, draft, and negotiate employment contracts, vendor agreements, service agreements and NDAs.
• Represent the company before the CCMA, bargaining councils, Labour Court and other tribunals.
• Partner with HR Business Partners to manage disciplinary, grievance, retrenchment and dismissal processes.
• Monitor legislative changes and deliver regular updates to HR and business leaders.
• Conduct legal research, prepare opinions, and develop training on employment law for managers.

Required profile

• Qualified attorney with a South African law degree and admission to practice.
• Significant experience in employment and labour law, preferably within a corporate environment.
• Proven track record handling employment disputes and litigation.
• Strong ability to interpret and apply complex legislation and regulations.
