HVAC Artisan

About the role

Life Healthcare Group is seeking an HVAC Artisan to join the Engineering team at Life Eugene Marais Hospital in Johannesburg. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the incumbent will ensure continuous availability of HVAC services for the hospital’s infrastructure, covering maintenance, servicing and new installations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, repair HVAC systems, air‑conditioning units, air‑handling units and compressors.
• Perform preventive maintenance and conduct daily, weekly and monthly inspections on mechanical equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns, take remedial action and provide after‑hours standby and call‑out support.
• Document maintenance actions, irregularities and warranty services, and complete daily job cards.
• Manage spare parts inventory, order supplies timely and ensure proper filing of service records.
• Monitor contractor work, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and OHS guidelines.
• Conduct risk assessments prior to maintenance activities and uphold a clean, safe work environment.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate) with a minimum N5 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a Mechanical HVAC Trade Test certificate.
• Practical experience in mechanical/HVAC maintenance, preferably within a hospital or similar environment.
• Valid driver’s licence; own vehicle is an advantage.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of a CMMS (preferably SAP) is a plus.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities.
