Hospital Clerk – Civic Services (Libode)

About the role

The Department of Home Affairs is seeking a diligent Hospital Clerk to manage civil registration services at St Barnabas Hospital in Libode. The role involves processing birth and death notifications, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with departmental legislation and policies.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and verify birth notices, capture applications on the National Population Register, and issue birth certificates.
• Receive and verify death notices, capture applications, and issue death certificates.
• Perform online verification of informants or take fingerprints when required.
• Maintain registers of births, foreign births, and deaths, and submit applications for quality assurance.
• Safeguard assets, stamps, and documents; check equipment functionality and report issues.
• Record and report risks, occupational health and safety concerns, and keep up to date with policy and regulatory changes.
• Collaborate with team and management to ensure accurate implementation of procedures.

Required profile

• National Certificate: Home Affairs Services (NQF 5) recognised by SAQA.
• Undergraduate qualification in Public Management, Administration, Social Sciences or related field (NQF 6) – advantageous.
• Basic understanding of departmental legislation, Public Service Regulatory Framework, and Batho Pele principles.
• Computer literacy, planning and organising, problem solving, verbal and written communication.
• Basic financial administration, attention to detail, teamwork, record and time management.
• Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Driver’s licence – advantageous.
