Health & Safety Intern

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Health & Safety Intern to support the implementation, administration and monitoring of workplace health and safety practices within our construction projects in Johannesburg. This role offers a recent graduate practical exposure to safety inspections, risk assessments, incident reporting and employee awareness initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in implementing and maintaining health and safety policies, procedures and standards.
• Conduct routine workplace safety inspections under supervision.
• Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Support the preparation and updating of risk assessments.
• Record and investigate incidents, accidents and near‑misses.
• Maintain accurate safety files, registers, checklists and compliance documentation.
• Compile safety reports and statistics.
• Help organise toolbox talks, safety briefings and employee awareness activities.
• Participate in emergency preparedness drills and monitor PPE usage.
• Assist with internal audits, contractor documentation and general administrative tasks.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, Environmental Health, SHEQ Management or a related field.
• Recent graduate seeking practical workplace experience.
• Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and safety principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
