Health & Safety Coordinator

About the role

Schneider Electric is looking for a proactive Health & Safety Coordinator to support safe execution of engineering, installation, maintenance and commissioning activities across customer sites in South Africa. You will partner with project teams, contractors and customers to identify risks, implement life‑saving controls and champion a safety‑first culture.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine site inspections, audits and safety observations to ensure compliance with company, customer and regulatory requirements.
• Lead risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and hazard identification for engineering and commissioning projects.
• Enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), energy isolation and electrical safety procedures.
• Verify contractor competency, certifications and compliance with project‑specific H&S requirements.
• Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks and training on electrical safety, permit‑to‑work, working at heights and emergency response.
• Investigate incidents and near‑misses, identify root causes and drive corrective actions.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 3‑5 years of H&S experience in engineering, electrical, construction or manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of H&S regulations, risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation.
• Experience with LOTO, permit‑to‑work and contractor safety management programs.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
