Head of Prisons & Enterprise

About the role

The Head of Prisons & Enterprise leads the Prison and Enterprise stream for The Message Trust South Africa. Reporting to the CEO, this senior position sits on the organisational leadership team and is responsible for the full prisons‑to‑employment reintegration pipeline and the growth of the Gangstar enterprise model.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the Prison and Enterprise stream in monthly leadership meetings, shaping long‑term strategy and reporting on impact.
• Develop and manage the stream’s budget and fundraising strategy, including corporate partnerships and high‑net‑worth donor engagement.
• Lead the Prison & Enterprise team, ensuring safe, effective training and support for young people transitioning from prison to community life.
• Expand partnerships with the Department of Correctional Services and other reintegration organisations.
• Oversee the Gangstar Café operations, drive expansion of new cafés, and secure enterprise‑development funding.
• Maintain strategic relationships to strengthen the Gangstar brand across cafés, events, roasteries and training programmes.
• Participate fully in the organisation’s spiritual life, attending monthly prayer days and weekly devotions.
