Head of Payments

About the role

The Head of Payments will lead the growth, performance and strategic direction of the payments division for a fast‑growing e‑commerce technology business. Reporting to the CEO, this senior leader will drive revenue, build partnerships and ensure a secure, scalable payments platform.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the payments growth strategy, targeting merchant acquisition and partnership development.
• Lead and develop the payments team, setting goals, managing performance and succession planning.
• Align payments objectives with group strategy, monitor KPIs such as transaction value, revenue growth and platform uptime.
• Ensure regulatory compliance, manage relationships with banks, acquirers and payment schemes, and oversee fraud prevention and settlement integrity.

Required profile

• 8+ years experience in payments, fintech or banking, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Business, Finance, Economics or a related field; MBA advantageous.
• Proven track record of driving revenue growth, merchant acquisition and building strategic partnerships in South Africa.
