Head of Mechanic

About the role

The Head of Mechanic will lead the mechanical team at our Cape Town facility, ensuring equipment reliability, cost‑effective spares management and continuous improvement of maintenance processes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain spares budgets, introduce cost‑saving measures and ensure critical spares are always in stock.
• Reduce unplanned downtime by implementing preventative maintenance plans and monitoring machine performance.
• Manage waste, time and cost efficiencies across the workshop.
• Develop and communicate mechanic resource planning, ensuring coverage per production line.
• Create a mechanics skills matrix, organise training, and conduct monthly 360° feedback with line management.
• Drive technical development, introduce new technologies and uphold health & safety standards.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years experience in the manufacturing industry with proven management experience.
• Qualification in sewing machine repair and maintenance or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience managing budgets, spares inventories and waste‑reduction initiatives.
• Computer literate with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Excellent communication, leadership and analytical skills.
