Head of Legal – Mining

About the role

The Global Mining House seeks an experienced Head of Legal to lead its legal function across international mining operations. This senior executive will shape legal strategy, ensure compliance, and support ESG and governance initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the company’s legal strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Draft, negotiate and review complex commercial agreements and manage contract risk.
• Advise the Board and Executive Committee on corporate governance and statutory obligations.
• Oversee litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution, managing external counsel.
• Liaise with regulators to secure mining rights, permits and licences.
• Identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, integrating them into enterprise risk management.
• Provide legal guidance on ESG matters and support sustainable mining initiatives.
• Lead, mentor and develop the legal team while managing budgets and external service providers.

Required profile

• LLB degree and admission as an Attorney (LLM or postgraduate qualification advantageous).
• Minimum 10 years post‑admission legal experience, with at least 5 years in a senior legal leadership role.
• Extensive experience in mining, natural resources or heavy‑industrial sectors.
• Proven expertise in corporate, commercial and contract law, regulatory compliance and dispute management.
• Demonstrated ability to advise Boards and senior executives.
• Strong understanding of ESG, sustainability and corporate governance within mining.
