Head of Legal (FinTech, Cape Town)

About the role

Kurtosys, a global fintech powering fund data distribution and regulatory automation, is looking for a Head of Legal to design and lead its legal function from the ground up. Reporting to the COO and working closely with the Executive Committee, you will shape commercial contracting, GDPR compliance, and strategic legal support while enjoying a genuine 4‑day work week.

Key responsibilities

• Build and implement the entire legal function, including templates, playbooks and processes.
• Lead enterprise‑level SaaS contract negotiations and commercial agreements.
• Provide strategic guidance on GDPR, data‑privacy and broader regulatory matters.
• Support M&A, investment transactions and corporate governance activities.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, commercial and security teams as a strategic partner.
• Manage external counsel and determine when specialist expertise is required.
• Report directly to the COO and maintain regular interaction with the Executive Committee.

Required profile

• 7+ years post‑qualification experience in SaaS or technology commercial law.
• LLB or equivalent legal qualification.
• Strong expertise in GDPR and data‑privacy regulations with practical contractual experience.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and make sound judgement calls.
• Track record of building legal processes from scratch and scaling a function.
