About the role

The Head of Law School will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Law School, ensuring delivery of high‑quality legal education, research, and community engagement. This senior academic position reports to the Chief Academic Officer and is based in Sandton, Johannesburg.

Key responsibilities

• Lead academic and administrative functions, promoting excellence in teaching, research and professional service.
• Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with university objectives and evolving legal education trends.
• Oversee curriculum design and revision to meet professional standards and market needs.
• Recruit, develop and retain faculty and staff, fostering a collaborative environment.
• Build relationships with alumni, legal professionals and stakeholders to enhance collaboration, funding and student employment opportunities.
• Manage the school’s budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
• Promote a culture of research and scholarship, securing funding for initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree with a strong academic record.
• Significant experience in academic leadership, having managed a law school or comparable academic unit.
• Proven record of teaching excellence and scholarly research in law.
• Strong leadership, management and communication skills, capable of inspiring a diverse team.
• Deep understanding of current challenges and opportunities in legal education and the profession.
• Strategic thinker with a clear vision for the development of legal education.
