Head of Buying - Cape Town

About the role

A leading women’s fashion retailer based in Cape Town is looking for an experienced Head of Buying to shape its merchandise and buying strategy. This senior leadership position will oversee clothing, footwear, accessories and beauty categories, turning customer insights and fashion trends into profitable product ranges.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall buying and merchandise strategy aligned with business goals.
• Lead range and assortment planning to ensure commercial relevance and trend alignment.
• Drive sales, margin and profitability across the product portfolio.
• Translate customer insights, market trends and data into buying decisions.
• Manage merchandise budgeting and Open‑to‑Buy (OTB) principles.
• Shape sourcing strategies, negotiate with suppliers and oversee supplier performance.
• Build, mentor and develop a high‑performing buying and merchandising team.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years’ merchandising experience in fashion, apparel or footwear, with at least 5 years in women’s fashion.
• At least 3 years in a senior management role leading buying or merchandising teams.
• Proven track record of owning and delivering a buying strategy with measurable commercial outcomes.
• Strong understanding of the fashion retail cycle, including planning, sourcing, supply and trading.
• Experience in multi‑store, omnichannel or e‑commerce environments is highly advantageous.
