Group Financial Controller

About the role

AltGen is seeking a skilled Group Financial Controller to join a renewable energy company in Cape Town. The role ensures consolidated financial reporting, statutory compliance, balance‑sheet integrity and robust control frameworks, providing independent governance oversight for the CFO, Board and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee consolidated group financial reporting in line with IFRS and statutory requirements.
• Maintain balance‑sheet integrity and lead the preparation of annual financial statements.
• Manage the external audit process and lender reporting, including covenant compliance.
• Supervise dividend approvals, capital distributions and treasury governance.
• Monitor liquidity, restricted cash and inter‑company funding structures.
• Review and approve accounting treatment for complex and technical transactions.
• Develop and maintain financial policies, controls and governance frameworks.
• Oversee customer credit risk, working‑capital management and bad‑debt provisioning.
• Ensure tax compliance, oversee tax reporting and audits.
• Lead fraud‑risk investigations and implement control improvements.
• Provide technical accounting guidance to finance teams across the business.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
• Professional qualification such as CA(SA), CFA or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years in a senior finance or financial control role.
• At least 2 years’ experience within the renewable energy or EPC environment.
• Strong understanding of IFRS, financial reporting and statutory compliance.
• Experience working in multi‑entity organisations.
