Grocery Store Buyer – Non‑Perishable Foods Specialist

About the role

The company is seeking an experienced Grocery Store Buyer to manage the procurement of non‑perishable food items. The role focuses on maintaining strong supplier relationships, ensuring stock availability, and optimizing working capital across two locations – Kuruman and Rustenburg.

Key responsibilities

• Purchase non‑perishable food products in line with company policies.
• Set up and maintain a daily supplier call cycle, meeting with suppliers as scheduled.
• Develop and execute supplier trade plans to achieve sales growth and margin targets.
• Conduct market price surveys and support price and deal negotiations.
• Create purchase orders, monitor order status, and ensure timely deliveries.
• Track supplier performance, delivery efficiency, and stock levels to meet inventory objectives.
• Manage working capital by leveraging supplier payment terms and minimizing negative or ageing stock.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a buyer of non‑perishable foods in a wholesale or retail environment.
• Demonstrated ability to build and sustain supplier relationships.
• Strong understanding of stock management, margin expectations, and budget control.
• Willingness to work on‑site in either Kuruman or Rustenburg.

Required skills

• Experience with supplier call cycles and trade planning.
• Knowledge of market price surveys and negotiation techniques.
• Ability to create and manage purchase orders according to company procedures.
