Graduate-In-Training Programme – 2027

About the role

The SARAO Graduate-In-Training Programme offers recent engineering and science graduates a three‑year, hands‑on experience in radio astronomy, combining mentorship, project work and skill development.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in SARAO’s ongoing radio astronomy projects, applying engineering, data science, software development or project management skills.
• Engage in hands‑on training, workshops and seminars to develop technical and soft skills.

Required profile

• South African citizen completing or in the final year of a relevant BSc, BEng, BTech, Advanced Diploma or Honours degree.
• Degree fields include Software/Computer Science, Mechanical/Mechatronic, Electrical/Electronic, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Engineering.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge in engineering, data analysis or software development relevant to radio astronomy.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and adapt to on‑site placements.
