General Operative – Site Operations

About the role

Heidelberg Materials UK is seeking a motivated General Operative to support the safe and efficient operation of its manufacturing site. You will work hands‑on with both static and mobile plant equipment, contributing to the production of essential construction materials used across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Safely operate mobile and static plant equipment.
• Carry out pre‑start, operational and post‑operation inspections.
• Record and report defects, hazards and maintenance needs.
• Support material loading, handling, processing and rail loading activities.
• Assist with train and wagon inspections for rail operations.
• Complete near‑miss reports and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the site.
• Welcome visitors, manage sign‑in procedures and support contractor inductions.
• Collaborate with colleagues to meet production targets and operational standards.
• Attend training programmes to gain and maintain operational competencies.
