General Manager

About the role

Urban Foods is looking for a dynamic General Manager to lead all aspects of its fresh‑produce business. The role combines operational oversight, financial stewardship and team leadership in a fast‑paced food distribution environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute business strategies that drive sustainable growth and profitability.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations across all departments, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
• Manage financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control and profit‑and‑loss accountability.
• Lead, motivate and develop department managers and staff to achieve operational excellence.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, customers and key stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, health and safety legislation and internal policies.
• Monitor inventory, procurement, stock management and waste‑reduction initiatives.
• Analyse operational and financial data, preparing reports and recommendations for senior management.
• Identify new business opportunities, improve processes and drive continuous improvement.
• Manage risk, operational challenges and business continuity planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Business Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Agriculture, Food Science, Commerce or related field (MBA advantageous).
• 8–10 years of management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or General Management role.
• Proven experience in fresh produce, food manufacturing, distribution, wholesale, retail or FMCG sectors.
• Strong financial and commercial management background, including budgeting and profit‑and‑loss responsibility.
• Demonstrated success leading large operational teams.
• Experience in supply chain, procurement, warehousing and logistics management.
• Knowledge of food safety standards, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
