General Manager – Exports

About the role

Our client, a premium citrus producer and exporter based in the Citrusdal Valley, is seeking a senior leader to head its Export business unit. Reporting to the MD of Packing & Marketing, the General Manager – Exports will drive operational excellence, maximise value from established demand, and strengthen the company’s position with global retailers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the export management and operations team, overseeing the Export Management Operating System and ensuring effective execution across the export value chain.
• Manage supply‑demand planning, logistics, export documentation and programme delivery in line with the marketing and export plan, while identifying efficiency improvements.
• Optimise product allocation across customers, markets and specifications, align supply with demand and capacity, and manage operational, commercial and supply‑chain risks.
• Direct annual planning and budgeting for the export unit, enforce cost control, financial discipline and provide clear reporting on performance and KPIs.

Required profile

• Leadership experience within fresh produce, exports, supply‑chain management or related sectors.
• Relevant tertiary degree (e.g., Management, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering or related field).
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong managerial understanding of planning, logistics and export execution.
• High emotional intelligence and ability to lead effectively under pressure.
• Ability to build trust, engage constructively across functions and develop people.
• Experience operating in complex, fast‑moving environments.
• Excellent communication skills and sound judgement.
• Fruit industry experience advantageous but not required.
