General Manager (4.1 Legal Appointment) – Mining

About the role

The client is a leading South African mining contractor seeking an experienced General Manager (4.1 Legal Appointee) to lead multiple mining operations, drive performance, safety and strategic growth across their portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the 4.1 Legal Appointee, ensuring compliance with MHSA, environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Drive a strong safety culture through audits, risk assessments and proactive incident management.
• Develop and execute long‑term mine strategies aligned with business objectives and support growth initiatives.
• Oversee end‑to‑end mining operations including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and processing to meet production and cost targets.
• Manage and optimise contractor performance and maintain relationships with regulators and stakeholders.
• Lead multi‑disciplinary teams, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
• Manage operational budgets, drive cost optimisation and ensure sustainable mining practices.

Required profile

• 4.1 Legal Appointment (MHSA mandatory) and a degree in Mining Engineering, Geology or related field.
• Minimum 15 years mining experience (underground and surface) with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven experience in contractor management and large‑scale mining operations.
• Strong knowledge of mining legislation, safety standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience managing large teams and complex multi‑site operations.
