Foundation Phase Teacher (Grades R‑3) – 4 Positions

About the role

An independent private school in Sunninghill, Sandton, is expanding its primary phase from January 2027. It seeks four Foundation Phase teachers – one each for Grade R, 1, 2 and 3 (with a dedicated Grade 2 specialist). Teachers will work in a co‑teaching model within an open‑plan Learning Hub and a dedicated Enquiry Studio.

Key responsibilities

• Share full responsibility for a class with a second Lead Teacher, jointly planning, delivering and assessing learning.
• Manage distinct zones in the Learning Hub for direct instruction, guided practice, quiet work and play‑based activities.
• Facilitate hands‑on, inquiry‑based lessons in the Enquiry Studio, developing questioning, problem‑solving, early STEM, literacy and fine‑motor skills.
• Collaborate daily with the co‑teacher to deliver instruction in smaller groups within a larger cohort.

Required profile

• Recognised Foundation Phase teaching qualification – B.Ed Foundation Phase or PGCE with Foundation Phase specialisation – and SACE registration.
• Solid experience delivering the CAPS curriculum for Grades R‑3.
• Genuine openness to, or experience with, co‑teaching or team‑teaching models.
• Confidence facilitating play‑based, enquiry‑led and experiential learning.
• Comfort teaching in an open‑plan, flexible Learning Hub environment.

What we offer

• Salary range R25 000 – R35 000 per month (total cost to company), inclusive of a 13th cheque and Provident Fund contribution.
• Band placement negotiable based on teaching experience.
