Forensic Investigator III

About the role

Capitec’s Fusion Centre is a specialist intelligence unit that tackles financial crime across credit‑related fraud, insurance fraud and core banking scams. The Forensic Investigator III will lead complex investigations, develop preventative controls and support law‑enforcement partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end investigations into complex fraud, from planning and mapping modus operandi to evidence gathering and criminal case initiation.
• Identify control gaps and recommend practical preventative measures to stop losses.
• Set investigation standards, review work quality and ensure consistent, thorough case handling.
• Provide executive‑level reporting on fraud trends, actions taken and policy recommendations.
• Build and maintain relationships with law‑enforcement and industry stakeholders to see cases through to outcome.
• Mentor and develop team members, coaching on methods, frameworks and best practice.

Required profile

• At least 6 years’ experience as a specialist investigator or forensic auditor.
• Minimum 6 years in banking crime investigation (strongly preferred).
• Relevant degree in Law or Finance.
• Solid grounding in investigation methods and the intelligence process.
• Familiarity with the South African banking industry.
• Ability to absorb unstructured information and produce clear, structured findings quickly.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for detailed forensic reporting.
• Organised, conscientious and able to track multiple investigations simultaneously.
