Fitters Manager – Engineering (Epping, Cape Town)

About the role

We are seeking a Fitters Manager to lead the fitter’s department within a heavy‑industrial plant in Epping, Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all mechanical maintenance activities, managing breakdown response, and driving preventative maintenance programmes to ensure optimal equipment performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of fitters in a high‑pressure environment.
• Plan, coordinate and execute mechanical maintenance and breakdown repairs.
• Implement and monitor preventative maintenance systems (CMMS) to minimise downtime.
• Ensure compliance with OHSA regulations and safety standards.
• Maintain equipment performance records and report on key performance indicators.
• Perform fault‑finding and mechanical troubleshooting across plant assets.
• Manage resources, schedules and budgets for the fitter’s department.

Required profile

• Grade 12 education with a Red Seal Mechanical Fitter qualification.
• 10+ years of experience in heavy‑industry mechanical maintenance.
• 5+ years of management or supervisory experience.
• Physically fit for work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault‑finding ability.
• Experience with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Knowledge of OHSA and safety compliance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Hydraulic system experience (advantageous).
