Financial Accountant – Cape Town

About the role

Our commercial client in retail and FMCG is seeking a qualified Financial Accountant to step into a Financial Controller/Finance Manager role. Based at the V&A Waterfront, you will ensure financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance while supporting profitability and growth.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and develop a team of three staff members (Creditors Manager, Payroll Manager, and Accountant).
• Prepare and present monthly financial statements and management accounts, and compile consolidated statements in line with IFRS/GAAP.
• Analyse departmental profitability, monitor key cost drivers, and provide variance analysis with commentary to senior management.
• Maintain general ledger accuracy, oversee supplier reconciliations, approve payroll, and ensure audit readiness.
• Monitor cash flow, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and deliver financial insights to drive efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Professional qualification – SAICA, SAIPA or CIMA.
• At least 3 years post‑qualification accounting experience, preferably in retail, FMCG, QSR or franchise environments.
• Demonstrated experience managing and developing a finance team.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and financial reporting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems.
• Experience using accounting software.
