Finance Manager – Financial Control & Revenue

About the role

AltGen, a renewable energy EPC firm in Cape Town, is looking for a Finance Manager to oversee financial control and revenue for its solar project portfolio. The role ensures accurate revenue recognition, monitors project costs, and provides financial insight to support decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure revenue is recognised in line with project milestones, contractual terms and IFRS/IAS guidelines, using percentage‑of‑completion methods.
• Track billing schedules, change orders and customer invoicing to align recognised revenue with delivery progress.
• Assess accounts receivable, monitor aged receivables and report collection performance.
• Maintain accurate project‑level financial reports, cost ledgers and analyse actual costs against budgets.
• Investigate material cost variances, labour overruns and procurement deviations.
• Provide financial expertise to project managers, challenge assumptions and flag potential overruns.
• Review and report gross margins per project monthly, forecast profit scenarios and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare and maintain cash‑flow forecasts for revenue and project costs.
• Produce month‑end reports and dashboards for finance and executive stakeholders.
• Maintain documentation for project audits and board‑level reporting.
• Review management accounts, bank reconciliations and monthly journals for accuracy.
• Oversee salary processing, ensure PAYE and statutory payroll submissions are accurate and timely.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Finance Manager or in a comparable financial control role.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS/IAS and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition.
• Experience working closely with project managers, procurement teams and senior leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare month‑end reports and board‑level financial documentation.
