External Sales Representative – Retail FMCG

About the role

We are looking for an experienced External Sales Representative to manage and grow strategic relationships with national retail customers in the FMCG sector. You will be responsible for driving profitable sales growth, negotiating terms, planning promotions and ensuring excellent execution across key accounts.

Key responsibilities

• Manage key retail accounts including national pharmacy and grocery chains such as Dis‑Chem, Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay and Clicks.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers and category managers.
• Develop annual business plans, negotiate pricing, promotions and trading terms.
• Plan, execute and evaluate promotional campaigns.
• Analyse sales, market and customer data to identify opportunities and improve performance.
• Prepare forecasts, budgets and account reports; monitor profitability and margins.
• Maintain retailer customer portals with accurate information.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain, Marketing and Finance to deliver customer plans.
• Resolve queries, monitor competitor activity and achieve sales targets.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing, Sales or related field (preferred).
• 3–5 years’ key‑account management experience in FMCG.
• Proven experience with major retail accounts and understanding of trading terms.
• Strong analytical, numerical and organisational abilities.
• Valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
