External Sales Representative

About the role

We are seeking a driven External Sales Representative with strong technical expertise to grow our business in the South African steel industry. You will work with a leading steel distributor and value‑added processor, delivering innovative material solutions to manufacturing, engineering, mining and construction customers.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop new business opportunities across the steel, mining, manufacturing, engineering and construction sectors.
• Manage key accounts, build long‑term relationships and achieve defined sales targets.
• Interpret technical drawings and specifications to propose appropriate steel, aluminium and carbon‑steel solutions.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless order processing and delivery.
• Maintain accurate records in CRM and ERP systems, including SAP.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with a strong technical background; further qualifications in Engineering, Draughting or Sales are advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years of external sales experience in steel, mining, manufacturing, engineering or construction.
• Proven track record in key‑account management and business development.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD and AutoCAD.
• Strong knowledge of stainless steel, aluminium and carbon steel.
• Experience using ERP systems, particularly SAP.
• Competence in CRM tools.
