External Sales Representative: Hardware, Tools & Industrial Products (Pretoria)

About the role

Our client is a growing industrial and hardware wholesaler based in Johannesburg. They are looking for an experienced External Sales Representative to manage and grow a portfolio of trade customers in Pretoria and the surrounding Gauteng area.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and grow a portfolio of existing customer accounts.
• Identify, approach, and onboard new trade customers such as hardware retailers, distributors, and general dealers.
• Achieve and exceed monthly and annual sales targets.
• Present and promote the full product range, including hardware, tools, security, homeware, and gardenware.
• Process quotations, orders, and follow up on deliveries with customers.
• Build strong, lasting relationships with store owners, buyers, and decision‑makers.
• Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs.
• Report on sales activity, pipeline, and account performance.
• Collaborate with internal sales, warehouse, and procurement teams to ensure smooth order fulfilment.

Required profile

• Proven sales experience within the hardware, tools, DIY, or building materials industry.
• Existing network of trade contacts in hardware/tools retail and distribution is a strong advantage.
• Self‑motivated hunter mentality with a track record of prospecting and closing new business.
• Excellent relationship‑building and negotiation abilities.
• Target‑driven, resilient, and able to work independently.
• Own reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s licence.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
