Estate Manager – Business Operations

About the role

The school is seeking a permanent Estate Manager to lead maintenance, refurbishment, budgeting and transport functions across its campus, ensuring safe and efficient facilities for students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance, repair and upkeep of all school buildings, classrooms and sports facilities.
• Manage renovations, construction and improvement projects, including planning, budgeting, contractor coordination and quality control.
• Prepare and manage the estate’s budget, monitor expenditures, control costs and ensure value for money.
• Source, appoint and manage external service providers such as cleaning, plumbing and waste management, ensuring service level agreements are met.
• Lead and manage estate staff, fostering professionalism and respect.
• Contribute to broader school improvement projects as part of the strategic plan.
• Oversee school transport arrangements, ensuring vehicle registration and legislative compliance.

Required profile

• Relevant Bachelor’s degree, diploma, trade qualification or professional certification at an appropriate NQF level.
• Minimum five years in a similar managerial role and ten years in property maintenance.
• Proven experience in estates, facilities or property management, preferably within an educational environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage operational teams, contracts, budgets and multidisciplinary projects.
• Sound knowledge of building systems, infrastructure maintenance, construction and South African health and safety regulations.
• Strong organisational, planning and conflict‑resolution abilities, with high proficiency in MS Office.
• Leadership, practical problem‑solving and financial management skills.
